Hello, my name is

Jeroen Bach

Engineering Manager

I'm an Engineering Manager with over 15 years of experience combining hands-on engineering with people leadership: managing teams of up to 12, hiring and developing engineers, and aligning individual ambitions with team and organisational goals. I find the greatest satisfaction not in my own output, but in creating the conditions for a team to do their best work: developing people, removing obstacles, and building a culture of trust and accountability. This blog is where I share techniques and insights for building great software and great teams, inspired by real-world projects.

Scroll down to explore my background and the projects I've worked on.

    Freelance Engineering Lead - Bach.Software

As a freelance engineering lead I've led teams and delivered full-stack solutions for both public and private sector clients, combining technical leadership with hands-on engineering. Highlights include:

    • Led the development of a secure data management portal for cross-border criminal investigations at a large European institution, integrating investigations, biometrics, and photo/video data across a distributed event-driven architecture on Kubernetes in a private cloud.
    • Introduced context/presentational component architecture, Storybook, and frontend unit testing with coverage, reducing pre-release QA defects from 3.5 to 0.6 per story point and shifting remaining issues from complex logic failures to trivial fixes.
    • Designed and built a schema-driven Vue Dynamic Form library that is now adopted across multiple frontend projects, reducing form development from 8-13 story points to 2-3. Published it as open source at vue-dynamic-form.bach.software.
    • Took on technical leadership within teams, mentoring colleagues and raising the overall frontend quality standard.
    • Led a case management project enabling crime analysts to group and jointly manage multiple member state cases as one, with cross-team collaboration, role-based permissions, and linked contributions.
    • Led architecture and delivery of three Vue.js webshops for retail clients with a team of 4 developers, creating a common server-side rendering framework reused across all three projects.
    • Led a team of 8 engineers to deliver a React-based webshop for SMB customers on Salesforce. Kept the team engaged and motivated through the organisational uncertainty of a merger by tackling problems collaboratively and delegating meaningful responsibility, so everyone continued learning and growing regardless of the outcome.
